Eupham married (MRIN:108) James Clark in 1777 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. James was born about 1752 in Of Dundee, Angus, Scotland.

James was listed as a maltman and brewer at the birth of his sons in 1777 and 1779. There is then a gap in the birth records when three daughers are born between 1787 and 1793. At the later dates he is listed as a porter indicating a reversal of fortunes. At his wife's death in 1794 she is listed as "poor."

 

Euphame and James were married clandestinely in Edinburgh by Charles Johnson, recorded in Dundee on 30 May 1777.

In 1841 Charlotte was a field servant at Inn of Walter Denham at Machline Tower Court, Dundee. She lived near her father on Pullman Close, Dundee.

         38   F  xvii.   Catherine Doig was born on 6 May 1819 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. She was christened on 9 May 1819 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. She died on 22 Oct 1872 in 31 Queen Street, Dundee, Angus, Scotland from phthisis.

Catherine was named after Catharine Wright.

 

In 1841 Catharine was a handloom weaver living with her parents at Pullman Close, Dundee.  She became a power loom weaver.  In 1851 she was a servant for David Galloway at 4 Crescent Street, Dundee.  She did not marry.

 

         39   F xviii.   Elizabeth Doig was born on 5 Apr 1821 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. She was christened on 15 Apr 1821 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. She died on 2 Sep 1891 in 108 Seagate, St. Clement, Dundee, Angus, Scotland from paraplegia 2 yearas and diarrhea after 7 days.

Elizabeth was named after Elizabeth McIntosh.

 

In 1841 Jean Doig (20 Angus) and Elizabeth Doig (15 Angus) were dress makers residing together at Fenton's Close, dundee. In 1881 Elizabeth was an unmarried dressmaker living with her sister Rose Ann Farquhar at 108 Seagate, Dundee. In 1891 she lived alone in St. Clement, Dundee.

 

Witness to Elizabeth's death certificate was her niece Mary Ann Duncan of 37 Colton Road, Dundee.

 

         40   F   xix.   Christina Doig was born on 12 Jan 1824 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. She was christened on 18 Jan 1824 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. She died on 14 Oct 1868 in 61 Albert Street, St. Andrew, Dundee, Angus, Scotland from disease of the heart after 6 months and dropsy after 3 weeks.

was named after her aunt Christina Fyfe.   She signed her name “X.”  Christina was a mill worker.

 

Witness to Christina's death certificate was her sister Jane Farquharson.

 

Christina married (MRIN:23) John Ireland, son of John Ireland and Agnes Laird (MRIN:58), on 17 Sep 1858 in Pullens Close, Murraygate, Dundee, Angus, Scotland. John was born on 6 Jul 1818 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. He was christened on 20 Jul 1818 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland.

John was a flaxdresser at Pullens Close, Murraygate, Dundee.  John signed his name “X.”

 

They were married at the bride’s home.  Witnesses were John Ireland and Catherine Doig.

11. Mary Gibson (Jean Doig, Alexander) was born on 22 Apr 1797 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. She was christened on 23 Apr 1797 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. She died on 9 Jul 1881 in Killean Schoolhouse, Killean, Argyll, Scotland from old age and infirminy for 6 months.

Mary was named in the christening record after Mary Whillam (?).

 

Witness to Mary's death certificate was her son George Winter.

 

Mary married (MRIN:86) James Winter, son of James Winter and Janet Blair (MRIN:87), on 11 Aug 1827 in Mains & Strathmartine, Angus, Scotland. James was born on 22 Sep 1807 in Aberlemno, Angus, Scotland. He was christened on 4 Oct 1807 in Aberlemno, Angus, Scotland. He died before 1881.

In 1806 Alexander was a mason until 1814.  In 1815 he became a packer until at least 1840. In 1841 Alexander was an innkeeper at St. Michael's Inn in Leuchars, Fife.

         47   M    iii.   John Doig was born on 12 Mar 1812 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. He was christened on 15 Mar 1812 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. He died before 1881.

John was named after his uncle John Doig.  His seaman’s certificate gives his birth as 12 Mar 1811.

 

John went to sea in 1825. On 23 Mar 1835 he was a mariner on the "Louela" bound for St. John's. He registered as a merchant seaman on 5 Mar 1847 in Dundee, certificate #200,355.  He was 5’3” tall, chestnut hair, pale complexion, and blue eyes.  He was tattooed with a mermaid on his right hand and a rose and thistle on his left arm.  He could write. John deserted and his certificate was canceled.  It was renewed on certificate #472,563 issued 10 Oct 1851 in London.

 

The link to marriage is uncertain and based on approx. age, location, and occupation.

 

John married (MRIN:27) Elizabeth McCulloch, daughter of James McCulloch and Catherine Finn (MRIN:115), on 13 Nov 1841 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland. Elizabeth was born in 1823/1824 in Egypt. She died on 31 Oct 1884 in 61 Scouringburn, St. Mary, Dundee, Angus, Scotland from pneumonia after 35 days.

In 1881 Elizabeth Doig (57 Egypt) was a widow and mill worker preparer boarding with Catherine Cree at 61 Scouringburn, Dundee (unmarried mill worker preparer, 59 Dunfermline).

Helen was born on 24 Mar 1807 in Dunnichen, Angus, Scotland. She was christened on 3 Apr 1807 in Dunnichen, Angus, Scotland. She died on 20 Feb 1893 in 42 West High Street, Forfar, Angus, Scotland from senile decay.

Helen was illegitimate.

 

In 1851 Helen was a widow living with her mother, a washerwoman, and two youngest children at West Lowuir, Dunnichen; she was supported as an annuitant.  In 1881 she lived with her son Alexander’s family in Forfar.

 

Witness to Helen's death certificate was her son-in-law John Lindsay.

 

They pledged marriage the same day in Leuchars, Fife.

Robert went to sea in 1815 as Apprentice on "The Patriot" from Dundee for the Baltic.  In 1820 he was Mate on another ship on the London to Valparaiso run.  In 1828 he served as Mate on the "Anne" (200 tons) from Chepstow and London to Rio de Janeiro. In 1838 Robert was Master of the "Margarets of Dundee" (138 tons) from Dundee and Grangemouth to Archangel. In 1838 he also served as Master on the "Aylesford," and in 1839 on the "James Watt." In 1841 Margaret was without Robert, living with the children at Parnell's Land, East Side, Dundee.  In 1844 Robert was Master on the "Edward Robinson" (301 tons) from London to Macao, his last trip.

 

Robert died 14 Dec 1844 at sea on the ship "Edward Robinson" on the London to Macao run, on its return from China.

 

Robert married (MRIN:16) Margaret Walker, daughter of William Walker and Margaret Welch (MRIN:41), on 10 Nov 1833 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland. Margaret was born on 27 Nov 1809 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland. She was christened on 30 Nov 1809 in Cupar, Fife, Scotland. She died on 18 Jan 1892 in 12½  Mortimer Street, Dundee, Angus, Scotland from hemiplegia after 1 month.

In 1845 Margaret, a widow, lived in two rooms at Lady Wynd, Cupar, Fife; she was a winder of weaver's bobbins making 1'6 per week and £8 per year from the Merchant Seaman Incorporation.  In 1851 Margaret lived at 50 Kew's Land, Dundee.  In 1861 she lived at 19 Nelson Street, Dundee, and all four children were living at home.  The daughters were power loom weavers, and David was a mold maker. In 1881 she lived at 31 Nelson Street, Dundee with her unmarried daughters Margaret and Mary, both stationers. In 1891 She lived in St. Clement, Dundee with daughter Nelly (Mary, age 47).

 

The informant on Margaret's death certificate was her son David Doig of Joilie Street, Alyth.

William went to sea as an apprentice in the merchant service in 1831. On 11 May 1835 he sailed as a Mariner on the "Argo" our of Dundee. He was 5 ft 7 in tall with brown hair and hazel eyes.  He had an anchor tattoo on his right hand. William registered (ticket no. 12,711) in London on 20 Jan 1845, showing his usual residence as Dundee.  His last time at sea is recorded in 1848.

The Argus (Melbourne), 23 May 1861 - "Running Over A Child. - Robert Doig was charged with allowing his horse and cart to run over a child. The occurance was shown to be accidental, and the prisoner was discharged, but told to hold himself in readiness to meet any charge that might be brought against him in the event of fatal consequences ensuing."
