him, but Helen and William were at home.
In 1851 David was a shoemaker living at 3 Batter Street, Dundee; with
him were his wife and daughter, Isabella.
In 1861 he was a shoemaker living at 62 Ballie Street, Dundee, and his
wife and daughter, Isabella, were still at home. David's
wife witnessed his death certificate. David

P. Doig, 72, formerly of 70 Garden St., West Springfield, died Friday at the
Glendale Rest Home in Easthampton after a long illness. He was born in Dundee,
Scotland, son of the late Edward and Henrietta (Taylor) Doig. He came to the US
at the age of 20, settled first in Boston, where he remained for two years, and
later came to Springfield. He was employed at the Perkins Machine and Gear Co.,
retiring eight years ago because of ill health. He was married to the former
Velma Case Fero of Springfield. besides his wife he leaves one son, James Doig
of Springfield; Two daughters, Mrs. Mary Stone of Easthamption and Mrs. Taddeus
Suleski of Northampton; one stepson, Robert M. Fero of West Springfield; two
sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Morrison of Hollywood Fla., and Mrs. Isabella Young of

-- Alfred R. Doig, 91, a resident of Westwood since 1948, died Friday, Feb. 17,
2006, at the Newton-Wellesley Alzheimer’s Center in Wellesley, after a brief
illness. He
was the husband of the late Lillian June (Stidham) Doig. Born
in Dundee, Scotland, the son of Albert P. and Mary (Lowden) Doig, he attended
Boston University before joining the U.S. Army. He served two combat tours in
the South Pacific with the Americal Division during World War II, and was
discharged with the rank of major. He retired from the Massachusetts National
Guard as a Lt. Colonel after 30 years, beginning in the 110th Cavalry and
later, with the 180th Field Artillery. Mr.
Doig worked for 51 years as a manager for the John Hancock Insurance Co. in
Boston until his retirement in 1982. He was the National Commander of the
Americal Division Veterans Association, a member of the Dugout Club (consisting
of retired officers of the Massachusetts National Guard), a member of
Constellation Lodge AF & AM of Dedham, and a member of the Islington
Community Church in Westwood. He
leaves his son, Alfred R. Doig Jr. of Natick; two sisters, Mary Nicholson of
South Dartmouth, and Jessie Clark of Ohio; and his two grandsons, Ian and
Andrew Doig. He
was the father of Douglas W. Doig, who was killed in action in 1966 in Vietnam. A
funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m., at the First
Baptist Church, 808 High St., Westwood, with the Reverend Lawrence Whitlock
officiating. Private
burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree. Visiting
hours will be held Wednesday, Feb 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the

Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at her home in Westwood after a long illness. She
was the wife of Alfred R. Doig. Born Dec. 25, 1914, in Boston, the daughter of
the late Lillian M. (Duplisea) and Raymond W. Stidham, she attended Katharine
Gibbs School in Boston and was an active member of the former Islington
Community Church in Westwood. Besides
her husband, she leaves her son, Alfred R. Doig Jr. of Natick; two
grandchildren, Ian and Andrew Doig; and several nieces and nephews. She
was the mother of Douglas W. Doig, who was killed in action in 1966 in Vietnam,
and sister of the late Elizabeth F. Steen. A
funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, at noon at First Baptist Church,
808 High St. (Rte. 109), Westwood. Burial will be private. Visiting

Doig Nicholson, age 87, of South Dartmouth, died Thursday, December 4, 2008, at
home. She was the wife of the late John Baker Nicholson. Daughter of the late
Mary and Albert Doig, she was a graduate of Dartmouth High School and Lasell
Junior College. A longtime member of the Congregational Church of South
Dartmouth, she was a member of the N.B. Yacht Club, the Allendale Country Club,
the N.B. Mother's Club, the Ladies Branch of the N.B. Port Society and the
Friends of Dartmouth Libraries Inc. Mary is survived by her three children,
Jane Nicholson of San Francisco, Calif, Ann Griffith of Lexington, Ma, and Gale
Beaton of Boston, Ma.; her grandchildren, Colby, Emma, Camden and Granger
Griffith and Paige Beaton; her siblings, Jessie Doig Clark of Ohio and the late
Alfred Doig. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made in her name to
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (B.L.A.S.) Association, 320 Norwood Park, South
