Notes for James Robbie
James was born between 1772 and 1776 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. His parents are not listed on his death certificate, so the link to parents is uncertain. There is no other James Robbie/Robie/Robe/Roby born in this period in Aberdeenshire so these are his parents or his birth is not recorded. Since he recorded his own marriage and children in the parish records it is more likely that he would also have been listed by his parents. The only other known possibility is an unrecorded James Robbie born about this time in Birse, Aberdeen, son of William Robbie and Christian Mollison [see HERE].
James and family lived at first in Lauriston, Saint Cyrus, Kincardine and by 1811 at Roadside of Lauriston. In 1841 James farmed at Graystone, Saint Cyrus; at home were wife Agnes, daughter Mary, a teacher, and Susan May, a field servant born 1826/7 in Kincardineshire. In 1851 James occupied 5 acres at Greystone with his daughter Mary and her husband Kenneth McRae, occupier of 17 acres, their son James, and two servants.
The informant on James' death certificate was his son-in-law Kenneth McRae; he did not list the parents. [We, Ken Doig and son Brian Doig, visited James' grave in St. Cyrus.]
